Live Commentary: Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea - as it happened

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea - as it happened

Arsenal threw away a lead in the final 10 minutes to deny Mikel Arteta his first win in charge of the club this afternoon as Chelsea came from behind to win 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were much improved for the most part and deservedly led through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's close-range header at half time.

However, a goalkeeping error from Bernd Leno gifted Jorginho an 83rd-minute equaliser before Tammy Abraham completed the late turnaround four minutes later, leaving Arsenal 12th in the table and with just one win from their last 15 matches across all competitions.

Find out how all of the action unfolded courtesy of Sports Mole's minute-by-minute updates below.

4.05pmRight, that is all we have time for this afternoon!
Thank you very much for joining Sports Mole for today's London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea as a late Blues comeback denies Mikel Arteta his first win in charge of the Gunners. I will leave you with our match report, and be sure to stick around for reaction too.
From me, though, it is goodbye for now!

4.03pmA devastating end to the game for Arsenal, who were much improved for a lot of this game but let it slip in the final 10 minutes, sparked by a goalkeeping howler from Bernd Leno.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were far short of their best for the most part yet manage to come away with a victory which increases their cushion in fourth place to four points.

FULL TIME:

90+7 minARSENAL 1-2 CHELSEA

CHANCE!

90+4 minHalf a chance at the other end as the ball is hooked high towards the edge of the box, where Torreira meets it with a volley which goes a yard or so wide.

CHANCE!

90+3 minAbraham steals possession just inside the Arsenal half and has green grass in front of him to run into, moving forward but then firing his effort over the bar.

90+2 minWe are into the second of SEVEN added minutes at the end of this match, by the way.

YELLOW CARD!

90+1 minMaitland-Niles is the latest name in the book for pulling his man back.

89 minThis will be such a difficult one to take for Arsenal, who have played really well today but have had victory seemingly snatched away from them. There will be lots of injury time, but it would take some turnaround now.

GOAL!

87 minIncredible scenes at the Emirates, where Arsenal have thrown this game away in the closing stages!
Chelsea break away in devastating fashion, with Abraham giving the ball to Willian, who looks to have taken it too wide. However, he manages to get the ball back inside to Abraham, who works space to shoot really well and slides the ball underneath Leno.

GOAL!

87 minARSENAL 1-2 CHELSEA (TAMMY ABRAHAM)

86 minARSENAL SUB: A late change from the hosts sees Nicolas Pepe come on for Nelson.

85 minA reminder that Jorginho is a little fortunate to even be on the pitch having escaped a second yellow card earlier in this second half. That will only add to Arsenal's despair here.

GOAL!

83 minOh Bernd Leno what are you doing?! Ater 83 minutes of good organisation, Arteta's first home game in charge could be ruined by a goalkeeping howler!
Leno comes to claim a free kick into the box but gets nowhere near it, leaving Jorginho with the simplest of tap-ins at the back post. It is a shocker from the keeper.

GOAL!

83 minARSENAL 1-1 CHELSEA (JORGINHO)

82 minThe Chelsea pressure is beginning to grow here, with Arsenal finding it more and more difficult to get out. They could be in for a long final eight minutes here!

80 minArsenal are just 10 minutes away from holding on for a rare win here in Arteta's first home game in charge. They are putting their bodies on the line and putting everything into this one, which is a clear improvement under the new boss.

CLOSE!

78 minOne more goal for Arsenal will surely kill this one off now, and Willock is so close to getting it! Kante is caught in possession by Aubameyang inside his own box and the ball falls to Willock, who hammers a powerful effort inches wide of the target on the turn!

YELLOW CARD!

76 minThe Emirates Stadium is unhappy with Craig Pawson here as he appears to show Lacazette a yellow card for his complaints against a foul by Jorginho, who has already been booked. The Arsenal players wanted a second yellow for the Chelsea midfielder, but instead only got one for themselves!

76 minARSENAL SUB: Ozil gets a great reception on his way off here as he is replaced by Joe Willock.

CHANCE!

75 minBig chance from the resulting corner as Abraham climbs highest inside the area but then does not put enough power on his header, making it easy for Leno to save.

74 minChelsea string together their slickest passing move yet, but the final ball is behind Abraham and Luiz is able to put it behind for a corner.

YELLOW CARD!

73 minTorreira picks up a yellow card for a pull on Mount - one for the totting-up process, I suspect.

72 minLamptey has been really bright since coming on for Chelsea. He has pace to burn and has looked to run at the defence from right-back every time he has got the ball.

70 minCHELSEA SUB: A third and final change for Chelsea as Callum Hudson-Odoi replaces Kovacic.

68 minJust over 20 minutes remaining in this match now and Arsenal will still be pretty content with how things are going right now. Chelsea have certainly improved in this second half, but Leno has still barely had anything to do.

CHANCE!

66 minBrilliant defensive work from Luiz as he gets back to make a crucial last-ditch block on Abraham, who waited too long to get his shot away after good work from Lamptey. Moments later a cross arrives to the back post, but it is headed well off target.

64 minKovacic now tries his luck with an acrobatic bicycle kick which is even more ambitious than Luiz's earlier. It duly ends up a long way off target too.

62 minBoth players are finally now back on their feet, with Rudiger bandaged up and Mustafi looking like he will be able to continue too.

60 minThere is another injury stoppage here with both Rudiger and Mustafi receiving treatment for head wounds.

59 minCHELSEA SUB: Lampard chooses to throw young Tariq Lamptey into the fold here, with Tomori taken off.

57 minThis match is bubbling nicely under the surface at the moment - there is a bit of quality lacking in the final third but it is an even and keenly-contested contest.

YELLOW CARD!

55 minJorginho is the latest player in the book for a cynical challenge on Lacazette which almost caused the Arsenal man to lose his cool.

54 minPoor from Willian as he lets the ball roll past his foot and out for a throw-in after a really good surge from Mount.

52 minThis has been better from Chelsea in the opening stages of this second half, and it is a much more even game now than it was for the majority of the first half.

50 minThere have been a couple of occasions today where Aubameyang has worked really hard to get back and make an important defensive contribution, and this is another as he gets a good challenge in on Kante.

SHOT!

48 minThe resulting free kick is only cleared as far as Kante on the edge of the box, but he drags his first-time volley a few yards wide of the target.

YELLOW CARD!

47 minIt has not taken long for the first card of the half to be shown as David Luiz is booked for a late challenge on Willian.

KICKOFF:

46 minArsenal get us underway for the second half at the Emirates!

3.04pmThe concern for Arsenal will be that Chelsea are unlikely to be as poor in the second half as they were in the first, particularly having already shown a few signs of improvement.
Arsenal arguably deserve to be more than one goal ahead, although they struggled to make the most of their time on top when it comes to creating clear goalscoring chances.

3.02pmClear chances have been few and far between at both ends of the field, but Chelsea have had a couple of sights of goal themselves, perhaps the best of which fell to Mount with the score still at 0-0.
Mount's effort on that occasion was too close to Leno, though, while Zouma failed to test the Arsenal keeper with another presentable opportunity towards the end of the half.

3pmPierre-Emerick Aubameyang got the only goal of the game so far, stealing away from his marker inside the box to nod home from close range after Chambers had flicked a corner into a dangerous area.
It was lax defending from Emerson, who was the man hooked by Lampard later in the half, but Aubameyang was also really sharp and still had plenty to do with the finish itself.

2.58pmThe first half comes to an end at the Emirates Stadium, then, and it is Arsenal who go into the break with a deserved lead.
The Gunners were comfortably the better team for the majority of that half, with Chelsea hugely disappointing particularly in possession. The Blues did improve towards the end of the half after Frank Lampard opted to make an early change, but anything other than a first-half deficit would have flattered them.

HALF TIME:

45+5 minARSENAL 1-0 CHELSEA

45+4 minThat said, I would not be surprised if there were a few raised voices from Lampard at the interval as his side have been so far off the pace he would have expected.

45+2 minChelsea have certainly seen more of the ball and looked more comfortable since that switch of system. Leno has still not been unduly troubled, but the visitors are finally beginning to settle now.

45 minThere will be five minutes of added time at the end of this first half.

SHOT!

43 minThe ball is slid through to Aubameyang, who gets in behind the defence but can only pick out the side-netting from a tight angle.

41 minChelsea have improved since that change, although the main problem for them so far has been misplaced passes, which is more a case of quality on the ball than the shape they are set up in. It is there that Chelsea need to improve most in the second half.

39 minJust over five minutes left of this first half now and, while Arsenal have not created too much since taking the lead, they will still have wanted to convert their dominance into a more commanding lead. Chelsea can surely not be this bad again in the second half, so a one-goal advantage may not be enough.

CHANCE!

37 minChelsea almost equalise out of the blue with a carbon copy of the Arsenal goal as Azpilicueta flicks the ball on from a corner but this time Zouma cannot connect when trying to get on the end of it.

36 minThat is a difficult one to take for Emerson, but something needed to change for Chelsea. Lampard's side have been really poor in this first half so far and the switch is recognition from him that he perhaps got his tactics wrong.

34 minCHELSEA SUB: Lampard has seen enough here, and he is making a change with more than 10 minutes left of the first half. On comes Jorginho in place of Emerson, which will see a switch of formation.

YELLOW CARD!

34 minChelsea pick up their third booking in the space of four minutes here as Rudiger goes in too hard on Torreira.

32 minMesut Ozil has not always showcased his quality in recent years, but he has absolutely run the show in the opening half-hour or so here. Chelsea are struggling to get close to the German.

YELLOW CARD!

30 minKante quickly joins his teammate in the book for pulling back Torreira to prevent an attack.

YELLOW CARD!

30 minMason Mount picks up Chelsea's first booking for a poor challenge on Maitland-Niles, treading on his ankle with a frustrated tackle.

28 minReiss Nelson has looked sharp and dangerous almost every time he has been on the ball today. His first thought is to attack the wing-back, with the back three sometimes giving him more space than he otherwise might have expected.

26 minThat stoppage just seems to have disrupted Arsenal intensity and flow here, which is good news for Chelsea. Lampard's side are yet to settle at all and have been comfortably second best so far.

24 minARSENAL SUB: Well, the positive news is that Chambers is able to walk off, albeit gingerly, but he will not continue and on comes Shkodran Mustafi in his place.

22 minSure enough, on comes the stretcher. It looks like a knee injury for Chambers, and he will just be hoping that it is not another ligament problem like the one which kept him sidelined for so long recently.

21 minArteta may not be pleased with this, though. Chambers goes down and looks to be in some pain, with his leg seemingly landing awkwardly underneath him. It looks like he will not be able to continue here.

20 minWell, Arteta warned that the players would need to work hard under him, and they certainly have in the first 20 minutes here. The Spaniard will be very pleased with what he has seen so far, with Arsenal looking capable of scoring almost every time they come forward.

18 minCrucial interception from Kante as Arsenal come pouring forward again, with Nelson finding Aubameyang, who in turn knocks it back for Lacazette. The Frenchman has to wait for the ball to drop, though, and that allows Kante to get a foot in.

17 minArsenal make another break into the box and Lacazette looks to have got clear of the defender, only to stumble. The fans shout for a penalty, and it looks to be a good shout too, but Lacazette's determination to stay on his feet seems to count against him and the chance goes begging.

15 minThat goal caps a positive start for the Gunners, and there is more reason to be optimistic now too as they have never lost a Premier League home game against Chelsea when scoring first, winning 11 and drawing four of such occasions.

GOAL!

13 minFirst blood goes to Arsenal, just when Chelsea looked to be settling into the game!
It comes from a corner as Chambers flicks the initial delivery into a dangerous area, where Aubameyang is much more alert than the defenders to nod home from close range!

GOAL!

13 minARSENAL 1-0 CHELSEA (PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG)

CHANCE!

11 minIt is far too easy for Willian to roll the ball short into the path of Mount, improving the angle for a shot. Mount gets that shot away and Leno needs two attempts to grab it, but eventually does bring it in as Chelsea's first chance goes begging.

YELLOW CARD!

10 minThe first yellow card of the afternoon is shown to Guendouzi, who brought Willian down just outside the left side of the area. No complaints with that one - Willian was just too quick for the Arsenal man.

SAVE!

9 minLuiz does indeed go for goal and gets it on target, but Kepa barely has to move as he gathers it in comfortably.

8 minThe opening stages have very much belonged to Arsenal here. The Gunnars' passing has been accurate and crisp, whereas Chelsea's have been sloppy. Arsenal have another free kick here, with Luiz standing over it from a long way out...

SHOT!

6 minHalf a chance at best for Arsenal here, but what a goal it would have been for David Luiz against his former club. Nelson earns a corner off Tomori and again Ozil is the man to swing it in, and Luiz goes for a spectacular bicycle kick which comes off his shin and skews wide.

4 minOzil clips the ball into the box, but Chelsea deal with the danger and Kante completes the clearance.

3 minIt has been a bright start from Arsenal, who are full of energy in the early stages here. They are closing Chelsea down quickly and have now won an early free kick in a good crossing position...

KICKOFF:

1 minHere we go, then! Chelsea get this London derby underway at the Emirates Stadium!

1.59pmCHELSEA STARTING XI: Kepa; Rudiger, Zouma, Tomori; Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Emerson; Willian, Abraham, Mount
SUBS: Barkley, Batshuayi, Caballero, Christensen, Hudson-Odoi, Lamptey, Jorginho

1.57pmARSENAL STARTING XI: Leno; Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Luiz, Saka; Guendouzi, Torreira; Nelson, Ozil, Aubameyang; Lacazette
SUBS: Pepe, Mavropanos, John-Jules, Smith Rowe, Willock, Mustafi, Martinez

1.55pmGood afternoon! Thank you very much for joining Sports Mole for today's London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium!
These matches are always mouth-watering affairs, but this time around it is particularly intriguing with both sides in pretty poor form and Mikel Arteta overseeing his first home game in charge of the Gunners. Arsenal have just one win in 14 across all competitions, while Chelsea have lost five of their last seven league games, so something has to give in this one.
Kickoff is just five minutes away, so let's waste no time in having a look at the team news...
