Arsenal injury news: Gunners considering second Takehiro Tomiyasu knee operation?

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu could reportedly require a second knee operation as his injury woes continue.

The Japan international was forced to miss the start of the season after being sidelined for three months with a knee issue.

Tomiyasu eventually returned to action in October, featuring as a late substitute in a 3-1 victory over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

However, the versatile defender has not been seen since his six-minute appearance after suffering a fresh injury setback.

Arsenal considering Tomiyasu knee surgery

According to the Daily Mail, there are now growing concerns at Arsenal over Tomiyasu's long-term fitness as he continues to struggle with a knee problem.

As a result, doctors are believed to be considering whether Tomiyasu requires more surgery to help solve the persistent issue.

If a decision was taken to go under the knife, it would be the player's second knee operation after he underwent an initial procedure in 2023.

All parties will be aware that an operation would sideline Tomiyasu for an extended period to undertake the necessary rehabilitation programme.

How does Tomiyasu's knee issue affect his Arsenal future?

Tomiyasu has made 84 competitive appearances since he joined the Gunners from Italian side Bologna in the summer of 2021.

When fit, the 26-year-old has proven to be a valuable member of Mikel Arteta's side due to his ability to play anywhere across the backline.

However, his injury issues could persuade Arsenal to listen to offers in the summer, especially as he has entered the final 18 months of his deal, although there is an option to extend by a further year.

With that said, a summer departure may be off the cards if it transpires that Tomiyasu will be out for a significant period, which would ultimately put off his potential suitors.
