Lionel Messi: 'Champions League tie with Arsenal is not over'

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi warns that his side have not yet secured a Champions League quarter-final spot despite their 2-0 away first-leg victory over Arsenal.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has warned his teammates that his side have not yet secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The holders took a big step towards the last eight with a 2-0 away victory over Arsenal in their first leg on Tuesday evening, with Messi getting both goals at the Emirates Stadium.

Even Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger rated his side's chances of overturning the deficit at just "5%", but Messi is eager to finish the job with a victory in the second leg at Camp Nou.

"The tie is not over, but we've got two away goals and that's not easy to do. At the Nou Camp we'll go out to win, as we do at every ground," he told Barca's official website.

"It was a very good result against a great team, who have some really good players. I'm delighted with the result. We've played Arsenal several times and we know what they are capable of doing.

"Arsenal did very well in the first half, with some help, but we knew they wouldn't be able to keep that pace up all the way. In the second half we had more space and that's how we got the first goal."

The second leg will take place on Wednesday, March 16.
