Stephen Hughes released by Aberdeen

Aberdeen have announced that midfielder Stephen Hughes has been released from his contract, which was due to run until next summer.

The club revealed in May that the player would not be offered a new deal, but he has now a free agent after having his contract terminated.

"[Aberdeen] can confirm that Stephen Hughes has been released from his contract with the Dons and is free to sign for another club," the Pittodrie outfit said in a statement.

"Everyone at Aberdeen FC wishes Stephen all the very best in his future career."

Hughes joined the Dons from Motherwell in January 2012.
