James Tredwell tips Alastair Cook to build on century

James Tredwell has claimed that England captain Alastair Cook has benefited from an extended break after scoring his first century in over a year on Tuesday.

Cook retired on 101 from 198 balls on the second day of England's tour match against a St Kitts Invitational XI in his first game back with the team since losing the one-day captaincy.

Tredwell believes that his skipper can now take his form into the Test series with the West Indies.

"He's probably been looking for a score like that for a little while so hopefully he can carry that into the next couple of days and further into the first Test," the spinner told the ECB's official website.

"Everyone thrives on confidence so runs are always a good thing.

"He's been very fresh, he's had a bit of time at home doing his thing at the farm. Sometimes that refreshment can be key, hopefully that's the key for his captaincy and his form."

The century was Cook's first since reaching three figures against Australia A in November 2013.
