England's Ashley Giles: Joe Root "a worry" with thumb injury

Giles admits Root "worry"

England head coach Ashley Giles has revealed that batsman Joe Root is "a worry" for his side's upcoming Twenty20 series against the West Indies.

The 23-year-old injured his right thumb during his 107-run innings against the hosts in the third one-day international in Antigua on Wednesday.

"Joe's a worry," Sky Sports News quotes Giles as saying. "He'll have an X-ray either tonight or tomorrow. Fingers crossed he'll be okay.

"It was a real lion-hearted effort from Joe. He got a nasty hit on his thumb and to get a hundred was a great innings."

Root himself added: "It's a little sore but it should be all right."

England won the third ODI by 25 runs to clinch the three-match series 2-1.
