Nick Compton prepared for tour of India

Nick Compton insists that his aim is to remain relaxed as he prepares to tour India with the England Test squad.

Nick Compton has claimed that he will not put too much pressure on himself during England's tour of India this winter.

The Somerset batsman was included in the squad for the Test series following a superb season in the County Championship but the 29-year-old is aiming to stay relaxed as he prepares to make the step up into the England senior side for the first time.

Compton told the Somerset website: "In my batting I am trying to replicate the sorts of angles and situations that I might find out in India.

"It's obviously an exciting time for me and I want to do well, but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself.

"It's just a question of going out there and maximising my opportunities and enjoying it. To be on a tour first and foremost is great, but I would also like to play my small part and contribute."

Compton is believed to be a candidate to replace Andrew Strauss as Alastair Cook's opening partner, with Joe Root also reportedly being considered for the role.
