Michael Vaughan hails "excellent" England

Michael Vaughan hails England for putting in an "excellent" performance to claim an eight-wicket victory in the third Ashes Test.

Michael Vaughan has praised England for putting in an "excellent" performance to beat Australia in the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

The hosts took a 2-1 series lead with two matches remaining on Friday as they sealed an eight-wicket triumph over the Aussies.

England were set a target of 121 with two days left to play, and they managed to reach it with minimal fuss thanks to the batting of Ian Bell and Joe Root.

"England have been excellent," Vaughan told BBC Sport. "It's always special playing at Edgbaston. You get the lift of the crowd. It makes it very difficult for the opposition. It always feels like this ground is very patriotic. I'm sure it will be the same at Trent Bridge.

"I will be interested to see how Australia react to this. They reacted well at Lord's. The biggest positive for them is Jimmy Anderson missing out. It could be a real twist in the series."

The fourth Ashes Test gets underway at Trent Bridge on August 6.
