Australia defeat New Zealand in T20 tri-series final

Australia win the T20 tri-series after registering a 19-run victory over New Zealand via the Duckworth-Lewis method.

A half-century from D'Arcy Short has helped Australia to victory over New Zealand in the T20 tri-series, which also involved England.

The Baggy Greens and the Black Caps were able to progress through to Wednesday's final in Auckland, and it was Australia who prevailed by 19 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method after a period of rain.

New Zealand had made a bright start but Martin Guptill (21) and Colin Munro (29) were both dismissed by 5.2 overs and only 43 from Ross Taylor guided the home side to a competitive total of 150 from their 20 overs.

Ashton Agar had chipped in with three wickets and although the spin bowler made just two at number three, David Warner (25) and Short had already ensured that Australia were always ahead of the run-rate.

Short got out for 50 but Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch contributed quick-fire knocks of 20 and 18 respectively before the rain came with Australia on 121-3 after 14.4 overs, leaving just 30 being required 32 deliveries.

However, the wet weather persisted and it left Australia being able to celebrate a well-earned triumph.
