Starc wins Player of the Tournament award

Mitchell Starc's performances at the World Cup have won the Australian bowler the Player of the Tournament award.

The left-arm seamer claimed 22 wickets in total, including that of New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum for a duck during the Aussies' final victory earlier today.

Speaking during the post-match celebrations, the 25-year-old said: "I've worked really hard with [bowling coach] Craig McDermott. We worked out a plan and to see it come to fruition tonight and throughout the tournament was amazing.

"Craig and I had a little plan for McCullum so I was pleased to get that one. The support through the tournament's been great."

Starc took his wickets at an average of 10.18.
