Curtis Woodhouse gives support to Rio Ferdinand ahead of boxing career

Curtis Woodhouse wishes Rio Ferdinand the "very best" following news that the Manchester United legend plans to take up professional boxing.

Curtis Woodhouse has given his reaction to reports that Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is planning to embark on a new career in professional boxing.

The retired footballer, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, is expected to announce his plans in a statement on Tuesday.

Ferdinand would be following in the footsteps of Woodhouse, who became British super-lightweight champion in 2014 after ending his football career.

The former Sheffield United midfielder gave his response to the rumours, writing on Twitter: "What's wrong with these footballers!! Wish Rio Ferdinand all the very best if he decides to give pro boxing a go. Who is anybody to say what he can or can't do. Live ya life."

The former centre-back retired from football in 2015 following spells at West Ham United, Leeds United, Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers.
