Washington Wizards destroy Toronto Raptors to reach Eastern Conference semis

Wizards brush aside Raptors to advance

The Washington Wizards secured their place in the NBA's Eastern Conference semi-finals with a convincing 125-94 victory on Sunday to seal a 4-0 series sweep over the Toronto Raptors.

It is the first time in Wizards' history that the club have won a best-of-seven series 4-0 and game four was the most emphatic of the lot.

Marcin Gortat had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Bradley Beal was the game's top scorer with 23.

Toronto, who had won the regular-season series 3-0 against Washington, again struggled, with Kyle Lowry, despite encountering foul trouble, leading the visitors with 21.

The Canadian side have now exited the playoffs at the first round the last five times that they have reached the post-season.

As for the Wizards, they will face the winner of the Atlanta Hawks-Brooklyn Nets series, with the top-seeded Hawks currently leading 2-1 after three games. Game four is tonight in Brooklyn.
