DeMar DeRozan scores 40 points and breaks a Michael Jordan scoring record to lead the Chicago Bulls to victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

DeMar DeRozan surpassed a 25-year-old Michael Jordan scoring record to help the Chicago Bulls to a 120-109 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Chicago.

DeRozan registered 40 points in the victory - his sixth successive match with at least 35 points on the board.

Jordan held the previous such franchise record with five on the bounce in the 1996-97 season.

The 32-year-old DeRozan also now has seven successive matches with at least 30 points, having led the Bulls to victory in the final quarter.

The hosts went into the fourth quarter trailing by six, but they dominated the final period, with DeRozan scoring 13 of their next 15 points as they went on to win by 11.

"Come the fourth quarter, my main priority is to win at any cost," DeRozan is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"You have to understand the whole game. It is tough to go out there from the jump ball and just be aggressive and try to score.

"You got to dissect the game. I collect data throughout the game and come the fourth quarter I got it all figured out and the ball is going in the hoop."

Nikola Vucevic contributed with 25 points and 16 rebounds as the Bulls posted their fourth win in a row.
