Doug Marrone: 'CJ Spiller will not be used as a wideout'

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone does not believe that running back CJ Spiller could be used as a wide receiver.

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone has dismissed the idea of using running back CJ Spiller as a wide receiver.

Spiller saw limited action in his side's defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers as Fred Jackson was used as the Bills' primary back.

"Well I think in the backfield it's much easier to hand him the football than it is to throw him the football, especially vertically down the field," Marrone told the club's official website.

"Intermediate throws I have no problem, screens, intermediate routes, but it's really difficult to push that ball downfield to running backs at any position.

"The only route that backs run that push vertically down the field that you see in offenses in this league, and you see this with Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush, are wheel routes."

The Bills face the New York Jets on Sunday.
