Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios pulls out of the upcoming Grand Slam tournament due to a torn wrist ligament sustained while training in Mallorca.

Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios has announced his withdrawal from the 2023 tournament due to a wrist injury.

The 28-year-old - who finished as runner-up to Novak Djokovic in last year's men's singles event - recently made his comeback from a knee operation at the Stuttgart Open, losing in straight sets to China's Wu Yibing.

Kyrgios was due to continue his preparations for Wimbledon at the Halle Open in Germany, but he pulled out of that event before his first-round meeting with Lorenzo Sonego citing ongoing issues with his knee.

Nevertheless, the world number 33 was included in the Wimbledon draw and was due to begin his bid for glory against David Goffin, who reached the 2022 quarter-finals before losing to Cameron Norrie.

However, Kyrgios has now taken to social media to announce his withdrawal, having torn a ligament in his wrist while training in Mallorca.

"I'm really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year. I tried my hardest to be ready after my surgery and to be able to step on the Wimbledon courts again," Kyrgios said.

"During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during the week of Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist.

"I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn't have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon."I'll be back and, as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans."

Kyrgios was forced to pull out of the Australian Open on the eve of the competition, having revealed that he had been struggling with a cyst on a tear in his meniscus.

The 28-year-old's comeback was further delayed by an incident at his home in May, whereby a 32-year-old man allegedly held his mother at gunpoint and stole Kyrgios's Tesla.

Last month, the man pleaded not guilty over the apparent robbery, during which Kyrgios also sustained a laceration on his foot, ruling him out of the French Open.

Kyrgios's withdrawal means that Goffin will wait to learn which lucky loser he will be taking on in round one, while Thanasi Kokkinakis was scheduled to compete in the men's doubles with Kyrgios against Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.
