Sloane Stephens thrashes Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1 6-2 to reach the Cincinnati Open second round.

Sloane Stephens has eased into the second round of the Cincinnati Open thanks to a straight-sets win over 10th seed Carla Suarez Navarro.

The American was dominant in the opening set, moving into a 3-0 lead before closing it out 6-1 in emphatic fashion.

With Suarez Navarro not allowed to find her rhythm, Stephens wrapped up the victory 6-1 6-2 with just over an hour on the clock.

The world number 30 will meet either Mona Barthel or Casey Dellacqua in the next round of the tournament.
