Warrington Wolves secure a 40-26 victory over Castleford Tigers on Sunday.

Warrington Wolves survived a second-half comeback from Castleford Tigers to secure a 40-26 victory on Sunday.

It was the away side who started the stronger, and a couple of early goals from Brett Hodgson and a try apiece from Ben Westwood and Michael Monaghan opened up an early lead.

It got worse for Castleford when Chris Riley got in on the act, while Hodgson took his goal-tally to five as Warrington entered the break 0-30 ahead.

It took until the 53rd minute for Castleford to get on the board with a try from Nick Youngquest, while Rhys Williams added another and Jamie Ellis converted with his boot after 57 minutes.

The seemingly impossible comeback continued, as two goals from Danny Orr and a try apiece from Richard Owen and Lee Mitchell cut the score to 26-34 with ten minutes remaining on the clock. However, Hodgson made sure of the victory when he added his sixth goal of the afternoon after 77 minutes.

Warrington Wolves have consolidated second spot in the Super League table.
