Mark Hughes relieved to leave Norwich City with a point

Mark Hughes admits that he is "happy" to earn a point after Stoke City's draw with Norwich City.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has declared himself "happy" with his side's 1-1 draw away at Norwich City.

Record signing Xherdan Shaqiri set up Mame Biram Diouf to give the Potters the lead in the 11th minute, but Russell Martin equalised for the Canaries with a goal just before the half-hour mark.

Norwich pushed hard for a winner in the second half, but goalkeeper Jack Butland kept them out with a string of saves.

Hughes told BBC Sport: "I am happy. We had a decent amount of play in the first half but didn't create a great deal today, the conditions took the edge off our game.

"In the end we are grateful for a number of saves from Jack Butland who was outstanding today. At the moment Jack has a broken finger as well so that shows the strength of character he has.

"Xherdan Shaqiri will get better the longer he is with us but you can see that he will be a key player for us. He hasn't played much but the 90 minutes today will do him the world of good."

Stoke are yet to win in three Premier League games this season.
