Tottenham reportedly open up talks with Barcelona over the potential £10m transfer of Spain's record goalscorer, David Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign David Villa and have begun discussions with Barcelona over a potential £10m deal, according to reports.

Spain's leading goalscorer is apparently available for transfer this summer after an injury-blighted 18 months at the Camp Nou.

Andre Villas-Boas is keen on the 31-year-old and the Daily Mail understands that Spurs have made their interest known to the La Liga champions, who value Villa at £12m.

The same source claims that Lillywhites chairman Daniel Levy is hoping to negotiate a slightly lower transfer fee for the World Cup and European Championship winner.

Villa has scored nine goals in 16 league appearances for the Catalan giants this season.
