Tottenham Hotspur new boy Pedro Porro opens up on his "dream" move to the Premier League after joining the Lilywhites from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day.

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro has described his move to the Premier League as a "dream" after arriving in North London from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day.

The former Manchester City youngster has joined Antonio Conte's side on an initial loan with an obligation to buy for €45m (£39.8m) at the end of the season.

A move for Porro was hanging in the balance for several hours leading up to deadline day, as Sporting reneged on a financial aspect of the deal having already reached a verbal agreement with Tottenham.

However, talks eventually yielded a positive solution, and Porro's switch to Tottenham on a five-and-a-half-year contract was confirmed late on deadline day.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after joining the North London giants, Porro admitted that he dreamed about playing in the Premier League, saying: "I feel great about the move. I really wanted to come here. It's unique opportunity for me and I hope everything goes well.

"And, yes, it's been a dream of mine since I was a kid, to play in the Premier League. I hope that it comes true, goes well this Sunday, and that we pick up the win."

Porro was previously on the books at Manchester City for three years between 2019 and 2022, but he failed to make a single competitive appearance for Pep Guardiola's side.

The 23-year-old spent the 2019-20 campaign at Real Valladolid before a two-year loan with Sporting - which was converted into a permanent move last summer - and he could make his debut for Spurs in Sunday's Premier League clash with his former club.

"Yes, that's why I was saying that we have to start well, get on a winning run, and that hopefully begins on Sunday," Porro added.

"For the moment, as I said, the main thing is to start well and to go on a winning run. I'm really up for it and can't wait to get started."

Porro ended his time at Sporting with 12 goals and 20 assists to show from 98 games in all competitions, and he played both of the Portuguese side's Champions League group games against Tottenham earlier this season.

Ruben Amorim's side beat Spurs 2-0 on their own patch before coming away with a 1-1 draw from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where a last-gasp Harry Kane winner was disallowed.

When asked about his main motivations for joining Spurs, Porro responded: "Above all, it's the atmosphere in the stadium and the supporters. The red-hot atmosphere that I felt when I came here in the Champions League, I was really impressed by it.

"I can bring a lot of character and personality to this team. Above all, my desire and will to win. I've also managed to watch quite a few league games this season, I've been following our games too, and in this case, I can say that now! So, yes, I can provide character, desire, and a great attitude."

Porro will compete with Emerson Royal for the right-wing back spot after the exits of Djed Spence - who has joined Rennes on loan - and Matt Doherty, whose contract was terminated to allow him to join Atletico Madrid on deadline day.
