Mauricio Pochettino is pleased with Tottenham Hotspur's 2-0 win over Manchester United, which edges Spurs to just two points off the top four of the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino has praised Tottenham Hotspur's "fantastic performance" in their 2-0 win over Manchester United and is pleased to be in the race for the top four.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring after just 11 seconds of Wednesday's clash at Wembley Stadium, side-footing home the joint-third fastest goal scored in the Premier League.

Jesse Lingard almost levelled for United, but Phil Jones turned Kieran Trippier's cross into his own net just before the half-hour mark for a two-goal lead which Spurs would not relinquish.

"It's a fantastic dressing room after a fantastic performance," Pochettino told BBC Sport after the game. "The performance was great and I congratulate the players because they deserve all the credit.

"The first goal was a fantastic goal. Christian Eriksen believed that it would arrive in this situation. We tell the young players to always anticipate. The early goal for us was good so that we can go on and dominate the game. That goal gave us more confidence and belief.

"I am so pleased we are in the race for the top four. There's a lot of games to play and that is why we need to stay focused. It'll be tough against Liverpool now because they are one of the best teams - but it's about taking it one game at a time."

Tottenham remain fifth in the table but now sit just two points behind Chelsea, who fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth.
