Match Analysis: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Everton

Sports Mole picks apart Tottenham Hotspur's comeback win over Everton in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur ended Everton's eight-game unbeaten run by coming from behind to win 2-1 at White Hart Lane this evening.

Spurs fell behind to Kevin Mirallas's curler but were ahead by half time thanks to goals from Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado.

It means that they leapfrog the Toffees and go seventh in the table, two points off the top four.

Below, Sports Mole picks apart the 90 minutes in North London.

Was the result fair?

Probably, yes. Everton made the better start but they didn't really push on after Mirallas's lovely strike. Spurs took their chances when they came after some careless Everton play and then held out in the second half. Everton will feel that they controlled the game with more of the ball, but they didn't really do enough with it.

Spurs' performance

For the sixth time this season, Mauricio Pochettino's side conceded in the opening 15 minutes. It was a slow start by the home side but they grew into the game and soon were level. Harry Kane's energy was the catalyst for a lot of Spurs' best play and it was his tackle on Gareth Barry that led to Soldado finally scoring this season.

It was the Spaniard's first league goal since March and the sort of finish that Spurs fans will want to see much more of. The most impressive part of the hosts' performance today was the defending, though.

Everton saw loads of the ball but didn't get any luck when they tried to break down the Spurs backline. Centre-backs Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen were particularly impressive.

Everton's performance

The Toffees lost their first game in almost two months and it was a quite a limp display. After getting off to such a great start, they continued to see plenty of the ball but didn't do enough with it.

Mistakes cost them dearly and both goals were extremely avoidable. Tim Howard pushed Kane's shot straight to Eriksen for the opener and then Barry allowed Kane to steal the ball off him for the second.

Romelu Lukaku was extremely quiet up front, while Ross Barkley had his best game for a little while. He didn't have enough help from his teammates, though. Roberto Martinez will feel that they should have had a late penalty and he's probably right as Fazio's arm was away from his body and clearly made contact with the ball.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Harry KaneE: Worked his socks off for the team and played a big part in both goals. His shot was palmed out to Eriksen for the first before he hassled Barry and won the ball for the second. Would have been disappointed not to score, but he didn't really have a chance and contributed in other ways.

Biggest gaffe

Soldado atoned for this error with a goal soon after, but it was still poor play. He was in acres of space to intercept Muhamed Besic's header back to Howard but failed to make good contact with the looping ball with just the Everton goalie to beat.

Referee performance

Michael Oliver was having a good game until the very last minute when he failed to see Fazio's handball. He also waved away Spurs' appeals for a spot kick in extra time but that was the right call as Kane tried to fool him by wrapping his foot around Besic's leg and falling over.

What next?

Spurs: It's a bumper week of Premier League action as December gets underway. Spurs first visit Stamford Bridge to face league leaders Chelsea on Wednesday before hosting another London club in Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Everton: The Toffees welcome Hull City to Goodison Park on Wednesday before making the short trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City on Saturday night.
