Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill: 'We are up for Germany challenge'

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill says that his side are ready for the tough challenge of facing Germany in their Euro 2016 qualifier at the Aviva Stadium.

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has insisted that his side are up to the challenge of defeating Germany in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

O'Neill's men need a positive result against the reigning world champions, as well as their clash with Poland, to keep their hopes of reaching the tournament in France next year alive.

Ireland drew 1-1 against Germany in the reverse fixture in Gelsenkirchen, which has given the 63-year-old hope that his side can match Joachim Low's men in Dublin.

O'Neill told reporters: "They're very strong, naturally. They're getting back to winning ways. They've had what they might consider a couple of hiccups along the way, including one against us.

"But we know what we have to do. It's a very difficult game for us, but we're capable. We have to go with all the enthusiasm and determination that that brings. We've got a bit of ability as well.

"They are class players, as is proven by them having won the World Cup just over 15 months ago, and it will be a tough night for us. But we're ready for it."

Ireland face Germany at the Aviva Stadium on Thursday.
