Jota, Clark, Thiago - Liverpool injury news and return dates before Aston Villa clash

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's injury and suspension news ahead of Monday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Liverpool's hopes of Premier League glory could officially be extinguished before they head to the West Midlands to take on Aston Villa on Monday night.

The Reds just about kept their dreams of stardom alive by beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 last weekend, where Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, Harvey Elliott and Cody Gakpo were on target.

Jurgen Klopp's side therefore have a strong hold on third place in the table, but if Arsenal or Manchester City win over the weekend, Liverpool can no longer top the standings.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest with the Lions, whose Europa Conference League run ended at the hands of Olympiacos in midweek.

Diogo Jota

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: May 13 (vs. Aston Villa)

Hip victim Diogo Jota did not return to team training before the beating of Tottenham, although he was originally expected to return before the end of the campaign and might be able to force his way back in for Monday.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Thiago Alcantara has likely played his final match in a Liverpool shirt, as the muscular injury he sustained against Arsenal in February - his only appearance of the season - has brought his campaign to a premature end.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Likewise, soon-to-be free agent Joel Matip has been sidelined since damaging his ACL in December's home triumph over Fulham and will likely depart this summer without playing another match for the Merseyside giants.

Ben Doak

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Ben Doak has also missed the whole of 2024 with a severe knee injury sustained while playing for the Under-21s, and the 18-year-old is also targeting a pre-season return.

Bobby Clark

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: Unknown

Fellow teenager Bobby Clark announced on social media earlier this month that his season was over due to an unspecified injury.
