Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly on the brink of finalising the appointment of Luis Enrique as their new head coach.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly on the brink of appointing Luis Enrique as the club's new head coach.

Last season, PSG successfully defended their Ligue 1 crown, albeit in unconvincing fashion as they lost seven of their 38 matches and only prevailed by a point ahead of Lens.

However, in the weeks before their inconsistent form towards the end of the campaign, it has already been widely claimed that Christophe Galtier would be removed from his role in the dugout.

Like in 2021-22, PSG were eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League, subsequently convincing club officials to search for a replacement.

As it stands, Galtier is yet to be sacked by PSG, but it is an open secret that it will become official in due course, as it became apparent with Mauricio Pochettino just under 12 months ago.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann appeared to be in line to replace Galtier at one stage, the German holding discussions over a switch to Parc des Princes.

Nevertheless, the relevant parties failed to agree a deal, and it has been suggested throughout the latter stages of this month that Enrique had emerged as the most likely option.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Spaniard is ready to sign a two-year contract with the French giants over the coming days.

Romano says that an official announcement will be made upon PSG finalising terms over Galtier's exit, the Frenchman still having time left on his deal.

Should Enrique's move to Paris become official, it will mark his first return to the dugout since leaving his role with Spain after their last-16 exit at the 2022 World Cup.

The 53-year-old has since been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, only for those clubs to opt for different options over the course of the last two months.

PSG are on the brink of announcing a number of signings, including that of midfielder Manuel Ugarte who will join from Sporting Lisbon in a £52m deal.

Centre-back Milan Skriniar will also link up with PSG on a free transfer, while Benfica youngster Cher Ndour is also in line to make the switch to the French capital.
