Arjen Robben: Costa Rica players rugby tackled me'

Netherlands winger Arjen Robben insists that 'football was the winner' following the Netherlands' penalty shootout victory against Costa Rica.

Arjen Robben has insisted that 'football was the winner' following the Netherlands' quarter-final victory over Costa Rica.

Oranje needed a penalty shootout to see off their Central American opponents to book their place in the final four of the World Cup.

Bayern Munich winger Robber was left feeling unhappy, however, claiming that Costa Rica reverted to deliberately fouling him during the contest in Salvador.

"I'm tired of all the insults," the 30-year-old is quoted as saying by Marca. "Today I was rugby-tackled throughout the game."

He added: "We deserved the win. They only had one chance in 117 minutes. Football won on the night."

The Netherlands will face Argentina for a place in the final on Wednesday night.
