Manchester United's hopes of signing Benfica's Darwin Nunez this summer depend on whether they qualify for next season's Champions League, according to a report.

Manchester United's hopes of signing Darwin Nunez this summer reportedly hinge on whether they qualify for next season's Champions League.

The Red Devils have allegedly identified the Benfica forward as a leading target in the upcoming market, with the Uruguay international netting 26 times in 33 appearances in all competitions this season.

However, according to The Telegraph, Man United will be unable to sign the striker unless they can offer Champions League football during the 2022-23 campaign.

The report claims that a fee in the region of £60m will be required to sign Nunez, and both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also showing a firm interest in his services.

The 20-time English champions are currently sixth in the table, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand, ahead of Saturday's clash with Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Nunez is also believed to be attracting interest from Manchester City and Atletico Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old has scored 40 goals and registered 14 assists in 77 appearances for Benfica since making the move from Almeria in September 2020.
