Manchester United are allegedly contemplating whether to make an ambitious approach for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, tripling his wages in the process.

Manchester United are reportedly toying with the idea of making an approach for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

Sitting sixth in the Premier League standings, United have recovered to an extend where Erik ten Hag no longer appears to be under any immediate pressure in the dugout.

However, despite posting four wins in their last five top-flight fixtures, United are struggling to progress into the Champions League knockout stages.

Furthermore, each of United's seven triumphs in the Premier League have been by one-goal margins, and they have scored just 13 goals from their 12 matches.

Despite the big-money addition of Rasmus Hojlund during the summer, United will eventually look to bring in further competition for the young Dane whether that be in January or next summer.

For that to be achievable, exits will have to be facilitated at the midway point of the campaign, with Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial the most likely attackers to move onto pastures new.

United are also subject to a partial takeover from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who would allegedly take over the football side of the business should he purchase a stake in the club from the Glazer family.

According to El Nacional, United are prepared to consider a big-money move for Griezmann as soon as possible.

The report claims that the Red Devils would be happy to triple the wages of the France international, taking him to in region of £350,000 per week.

Griezmann is also said to possess a release clause in the region of £21.5m in his contract, a fee that United may be able to pay if the aforementioned departures materialise.

As it stands, the 32-year-old is believed to be happy with life at Wanda Metropolitano, contributing 12 goals and one assist from his 16 appearances in all competitions this season.

Atletico currently sit six points adrift of surprise leaders Girona in the La Liga table with a game in hand, and Griezmann has recently acknowledged his determination to deliver a league title for the club.

The versatile attacker has also admitted in the past that a switch to MLS is on his radar in the future, something which could further complicate any move to Old Trafford.
