Luis Suarez: 'Liverpool fans have always stuck by me'

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez insists that Merseyside is his home and thanks Red fans for their continued support despite his attempts to leave Anfield last summer.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has thanked Reds fans for their continued support during a difficult summer, while insisting that Anfield is now his "home" as he focuses on the fight for Champions League places this season.

Suarez went public with his desire to leave Liverpool last summer in search of Champions League football, but the Reds rejected Arsenal's advances and held on to their prized asset.

The Uruguay forward has since returned to form a potent partnership with Daniel Sturridge, declaring that he will continue to give everything for the club to repay their faith.

He told Sport 890: "When I was separated [from the squad], the players told me they didn't like that and wanted me to be with the group. Today I feel very supported by my teammates, and I appreciate their support.

"The support of the fans was also very important. I always could walk on the street with no trouble. I was never threatened or anything like that, the people told me to stay.

"I feel part of things at Liverpool. It is my home. I am comfortable and happy here. I work hard for Liverpool and I will always be thankful to the club, and to my teammates."

The 26-year-old has six goals in five Premier League games this season, including a hat-trick in his last Anfield appearance against West Bromwich Albion two weeks ago.
