Wednesday's Championship predictions including Preston vs. Southampton

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Championship fixtures, including Preston vs. Southampton.

Birmingham vs. Hull City (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

An expectant home crowd will welcome Wayne Rooney for the first time as Birmingham City host Hull City in a tasty-looking clash on Wednesday night in the Championship.

The Blues commenced their campaign following the October international break with a narrow loss at Middlesbrough, whereas Hull's home struggles continued against recently-relegated Southampton on the weekend.

We say: Birmingham City 2-2 Hull City

Birmingham might be one of the division's great entertainers for the rest of the campaign as Rooney attempts to implement an attractive style of play, however that may not immediately translate to points for the Blues.

Hull will be happy to have a chance to put Saturday's disappointment behind them quickly, and we are backing the Tigers to earn a draw at St Andrew's in this one.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Bristol City vs. Ipswich (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Ipswich Town make the trip to Bristol City on Wednesday night looking to keep pace with Leicester City at the top of the Championship table.

At a time when the visitors sit in second position, the home side have recently moved into eighth spot courtesy of two wins from their last three fixtures.

We say: Bristol City 1-3 Ipswich Town

Although Bristol City are on a high from their win over Coventry, Ipswich are well-rested and full of confidence themselves. While the extended break may mean that there are some cobwebs to blow away, we still expect the Tractor Boys to secure another three points.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Plymouth vs. Sheff Weds (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Two of the Championship's newly-promoted sides will square off in an important contest at the bottom end of the Championship table on Wednesday, as Sheffield Wednesday travel south to take on Plymouth Argyle.

The visitors will continue their search for a first league win of the season, having only managed three points from their opening 12 games, while their hosts sit 21st with just a four-point lead over the relegation zone.

We say: Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday did show signs of encouragement in their trip to Watford on Saturday, but Wednesday presents another tough test, and we cannot envisage the Owls ending their wait for a first win of the season at Home Park.

Schumacher's men will see the home contest as a good chance to return to winning ways, and they have the quality to come out on top.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Preston vs. Southampton (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Preston North End and Southampton square off in the Championship on Wednesday with both teams sitting in the playoff places.

However, at the same time that the home side are without a win in four matches, the visitors to Deepdale have recently put together an undefeated streak over the same period.

We say: Preston North End 1-2 Southampton

Ending their recent losing run can only help Preston ahead of this contest. Nevertheless, Southampton have reached a point where their character has been enhanced, and we feel that the Saints will battle their way to another hard-earned victory on their travels.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Rotherham vs. Coventry (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Rotherham United and Coventry City square off at the New York Stadium in need of kick-starting their respective Championship campaigns.

At a time when the home side sit six points adrift of safety, the visitors have recently dropped down to 15th position in the standings.

We say: Rotherham United 1-2 Coventry City

For different reasons, this feels like a key contest for both sides if they are to give themselves every chance of realising their ambitions for the season. Although Rotherham may have more in the tank and are confident on the back of their draw with Southampton, we feel that Coventry's superior quality will shine through in the closing stages.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Stoke vs. Leeds (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

Stoke City manager Alex Neil reacts during the match on September 24, 2023© Reuters

Both aiming to build on victories at the weekend after the recent international break, Stoke City and Leeds United will square off in Staffordshire on Wednesday.

The visitors climbed to third spot in the Championship table by beating Norwich City on Saturday, while their hosts returned to winning ways against Sunderland.

We say: Stoke City 1-2 Leeds United

Stoke City are bound to take some confidence from their return to winning ways at the weekend, but they face a Leeds United side who have an abundance of confidence and momentum.

The Whites now look to be making their quality count under Farke, and we fancy them to make it four straight Championship wins on Wednesday.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.
