Andreas Christensen wants Chelsea starting role

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen reveals that he is targeting a starting role with the Blues this season.

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has revealed that he is targeting a starting role with the Blues this season.

The 22-year-old played 40 games in all competitions last term, which led to former manager Antonio Conte leaving the Danish international on the bench in the latter part of the season due to mental fatigue.

However, Christensen told the Evening Standard that he will be better prepared to compete this time round.

"[A starting spot] is one of the goals," the defender said. "I want to build on last season and get better. There's not much to say [about that] because that's where you want to be. I want to play, hopefully, the whole season again.

Speaking about the burden of his game time last term, Christensen added: "You know, you feel a bit tired playing all the games. But all the work in training, especially in the games, it prepares you mentally and a little bit physically because you know what you're going to come up against.

"But you still use a lot of energy throughout the season so it's still tough but it prepares you a lot."

Christensen was rewarded for his services last season by winning Chelsea's Young Player of the Year award.
