Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is adamant that they must continue their strong start to win back La Liga from Real Madrid despite building an early eight-point advantage.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has insisted that Barcelona must not take their foot off the pedal after a strong start to the season.

Barcelona have a 100% record after four La Liga matches, and their 4-1 win over Getafe on Saturday secured an eight-point advantage over champions Real Madrid at this early stage.

Pique maintained that Barca must continue their good work if they want to wrestle back the title from the Spanish capital this season.

He told the club's official website after the Getafe match: "We've only played four games, this gap over Real isn't that important.

"We're feeling good, though. We've won four out of four games. We have to continue like this.

"We played with a lot of intensity and tension, we dominated possession, we didn't commit silly fouls and we didn't lose the ball needlessly. We've matured, the team played really well today.

Barcelona kick off their Champions League campaign in midweek when Spartak Moscow visit the Nou Camp.
