Apono scores a late penalty to hand Real Zaragoza all three points against Atletico Madrid.

Apono scored a late winning penalty for bottom of the table Real Zaragoza against Atletico Madrid this afternoon.

Adrian had the best chance for the visitors before the break, but he was unable to convert Eduardo Salvio's pass into the net from just six yards out.

Tomislav Dujmovic went close for struggling Zaragoza in the 37th minute, but he headed inches wide of the upright from a corner.

Luis Garcia almost handed the home side the lead after the break, but his headed effort was parried wide by Thibaut Courtois.

Just as the match looked to be heading for a draw, Zaragoza claimed the winning goal from the spot in stoppage time. Helder Positga was brought down inside the area by Diego Godin and Apono stepped up to convert the resultant penalty.
