Arsene Wenger "cannot guarantee" Thomas Vermaelen stay

Arsene Wenger reveals that he will sign a new centre-back should Thomas Vermaelen leave Arsenal this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will sign a new centre-back this summer should Thomas Vermaelen leave the club.

The 28-year-old defender, who joined the Gunners in 2009 from Ajax, has been repeatedly linked with a move to fellow Premier League side Manchester United of late.

"I cannot guarantee he will stay, but should he go I would bring another centre-back in for sure," Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Star following Arsenal's 2-0 pre-season victory against Boreham Wood.

Vermaelen made one appearance for Belgium in the World Cup.
