With all the events having taken place and medals handed over to athletes, the stage is set for Russia's first Winter Games to draw to a close today at the Black Sea resort town.

Speaking about the closing ceremony, Marco Balich, the event's artistic executive producer, told reporters: "While the Sochi 2014 opening ceremony was the most spectacular Winter Olympics ever, the closing ceremony will be emotional, and it will highlight the great soul and heart of Russia."

Meanwhile, a Sochi press release claimed: "The audience will be presented with a European vision of Russia."

The Sochi Winter Olympics closing ceremony will take place at the Fisht Olympic Stadium today at 4.14pm GMT.
