Serena Williams progresses to the semi-finals of the US Open with an easy win against Ana Ivanovic in straight sets.

Serena Williams has progressed to the semi-finals of the US Open with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Ana Ivanovic.

The 30-year-old American took just 58 minutes to get the better of her Serbian opponent, winning the match 6-1 6-3.

Williams was in firm control of the contest right from the start and clinched the first set 6-1 in only 25 minutes.

The second set had a similar theme, and although Ivanovic did slightly better, she failed to cope with Williams and lost it in 33 minutes.

Williams will now take on Sara Errani of Italy for a place in the final.
