Result: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advances through first round

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has moved into the second round of the US Open with a straight sets win against 28-year-old Yen-Hsun Lu.

The Frenchman needed just one break in each set to defeat his opponent 6-4 6-4 6-4 at Flushing Meadows.

The 2011 Wimbledon semi-finalist will now face Ukrainian Sergei Bubka in the next round.

Tsonga, 26, has never been beyond the fourth round of the US Open.
