Maria Sharapova races into round three

Maria Sharapova has blasted her way into the third round of the US Open thanks to a comfortable straight-sets win over Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

The Russian was in unstoppable form in the first set as she failed to concede a single game on her way to a 6-0 triumph.

Despite some meagre resistance from her Spanish opponent in the second, the 2006 winner closed out the contest 6-1 in just 54 minutes.

Next up for Sharapova is Mallory Burdette after the American saw off Lucie Hradecka.
