Result: Serena Williams into US Open semi-finals

Serena Williams is into the semi-finals of the US Open with a straight-sets victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

The number 28 seed was made to work for the first set, eventually winning 7-5.

The second proved far more straightforward as the American brushed her Russian opponent aside 6-1.

The three-time winner will now face either number one seed Caroline Wozniacki or 10th seed Andrea Petkovic for a place in the final.
