Result: Federer survives Cilic scare

Roger Federer is through to the fourth round of the US Open after a four set victory over Marin Cilic.

The number three seed proved too strong for his Croatian opponent in the first set, taking it 6-3.

Cilic settled himself in the second and won 6-4, much to the surprise of the Flushing Meadows crowd.

Federer fought back, however, and broke at 4-4 in the third to serve out the set 6-4.

The five-time US Open winner was clinical in the fourth, winning 6-2 to set up a match against either Juan Monaco or Tommy Haas in the next round.
