Tomas Berdych beats Fabio Fognini in second round

Tomas Berdych is through to the third round after a difficult start to his match against Fabio Fognini at the US Open.

The Czech player triumphed with a 7-5 6-0 6-0 victory over the Italian in the second round at Flushing Meadows.

The 25-year-old was tested early on by his opponent and was forced to play an extra game in the first set to ensure a 1-0 lead.

Despite the difficult start, Berdych was able to cruise to victory in the remaining two sets, completing them both at six games to love.
