Andy Murray loses to Stanislas Wawrinka

Andy Murray is beaten in straight sets by Stanislas Wawrinka in the US Open quarter-finals.

Andy Murray's defence of his US Open title has come to an end this evening, after a straight-sets defeat to Stanislas Wawrinka.

The Swiss number two reached his first ever Grand Slam semi-final with a 6-4 6-3 6-2 win over the defending champion.

Wawrinka, who has been in good form all season, was dominant against Murray from the off, denying the Scot any break-point chances in the whole match.

The first set began on serve, although while the Swiss was easily negotiating his service games, Murray was struggling to keep hold of his.

In a 16-minute 10th game Murray was finally broken, firing a forehand long after saving five set points.

Wawrinka began the second set well, dominating off his forehand and putting huge pressure on the Murray serve. He eventually broke at 3-2 before holding his own serve and then serving out the set when Murray hit a return wide.

Murray was broken even earlier in the third set, adding to his own downfall with a double-fault at break point. Wawrinka saw his chance and piled on the pressure, breaking him again shortly after with a huge forehand into the corner.

The Swiss looked like he may be choking after dropping to 0-30 in the final game, before finding two big forehands once more and smashing on overhead past Murray to cement the biggest victory of his career.
