Donald Young: 'Progression is most important'

Donald Young says that he is always looking for "constant improvement" as he prepares to face Stanislas Wawrinka in the fourth round of the US Open.

American Donald Young has insisted that his main goal entering the US Open this summer was to simply improve on his previous Grand Slam results.

After booking his spot in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows, the 26-year-old was asked what it would take to win the competition.

Young has said that he is some way off being ready to win the US Open, but is targeting a spot in the quarter-finals, which would represent his best-ever result at a Grand Slam.

"I'm not there yet to the point where I would even be thinking about sitting here saying that right now I should be winning the tournament. But I'm working on it," Young told reporters.

"Constant improvement. This is improvement for me. If I can keep doing that, hopefully I can put myself in positions in any tournament to get to the final weekend."

Young, who is ranked 68 in the world, made the fourth round of the US Open in 2011, but has never been past that stage in either the Australian Open, French Open or Wimbledon.

The home favourite will meet Stanislas Wawrinka in round four on Monday.
