Stanislas Wawrinka reveals he was "shaking" with nerves before US Open final

Stanislas Wawrinka admits that he was "shaking" with nerves and crying in the locker room prior to his US Open final win over Novak Djokovic.

Stanislas Wawrinka has revealed that he was "shaking" with nerves before taking to the court for the US Open final against Novak Djokovic on Sunday.

The Swiss went on to win his first title at Flushing Meadows by sealing a four-set triumph in New York.

Prior to the showdown, though, Wawrinka struggled to contain his nerves and even shed a few tears in the locker room.

"Before the final I was really nervous like never before," Sky Sports News quotes Wawrinka as saying. "I was shaking in the locker room.

"When we start talking five minutes before the match, last few things with [coach] Magnus Norman, I started to cry. I was completely shaking.

"But the only thing I was convinced with myself was that my game was there. Physically I was there. My game was there. Just put the fight on the court and you will have a chance to win, and that's what happened. After a few games when I start to believe in myself, I start to be in the match."

Wawrinka now has three Grand Slam titles to his name having also won the Australian Open and French Open.
