Venus Williams: 'Serena Williams has nothing to prove'

Venus Williams believes that Serena Williams has nothing to prove as she bids to win her fourth Grand Slam of 2015 at the US Open.

Venus Williams has claimed that Serena Williams has nothing to prove after she emerged victorious in the battle of the sisters in the quarter-finals of the US Open.

A gripping encounter ended with the world number one triumphing 6-2 1-6 6-3 in New York to keep alive her hopes of winning all four Grand Slams in 2015, but Venus believes that the achievement will not define her younger sibling.

"I think [it] would be a huge, not just for me, but for my family just for what it represents and how hard we have worked and where we come from. So it would be a moment for our family," Venus told the US Open website.

"But at the same time, if it doesn't happen it's not going to make or break you. We don't have anything to prove. She has nothing to prove.

"She's really the best ever, so what are you going to do? Just try to make it. If you don't, then that's that and go to the next one."

Serena will meet Roberta Vinci in the last four.
