USTA announces roof plans for US Open

The United States Tennis Association have announced that Arthur Ashe Stadium will be fitted with a retractable roof in time for the 2016 US Open.

Renovations at Flushing Meadows in New York will also include the construction of two new stadia.

Plans to fit a roof onto the 22,000-seater arena come after severe weather delays during the past five tournaments.

The USTA is expected to reveal how the changes will be funded at a press conference on Thursday.

American tennis's governing body recently confirmed a record increase in prize money for this year's tournament.
