Jo-Wilfried Tsonga announces his withdrawal from the US Open with a knee injury.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has announced that he will play no part in the US Open due to a knee injury.

The Frenchman, who reached the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows in 2011, has withdrawn from the final Grand Slam of the year due to the injury he picked up during Wimbledon earlier this summer.

"The thinking is simple. The doctors told me that it would be at least two months for my tendon to partially heal and five months to be completely healed," Tsonga said on his official website.

"Two months takes me to the US Open. It would be stupid to go there knowing full well that I have no chance because I'm not prepared enough."

The tournament, which was won by British number one Andy Murray last year, gets underway on August 26.
