Australia's Bernard Tomic withdraws from the US Open with a hip injury ahead of his second-round match.

Bernard Tomic has withdrawn from the US Open ahead of his second-round match with David Ferrer with an injury.

The Australian blamed a left hip problem for his exit prior to his meeting with the fourth seed, which was due to take place this evening.

The 21-year-old underwent hip surgery earlier this year, and told reporters that he was wary of aggravating the issue.

Ferrer receives a walkover, and will face either Gilles Simon or Federico Delbonis in the third round.
