Samantha Stosur: '2011 US Open title gives me confidence'

Former US Open champion Samantha Stosur admits that knowing she has already won the tournament gives her confidence when she plays at Flushing Meadows.

Samantha Stosur has said that knowing she is a former champion at Flushing Meadows has given her confidence at this year's US Open.

The Australian secured her only Grand Slam title to date in New York in 2011, defeating current world number one Serena Williams in the final.

The 31-year-old told the tournament's website: "It certainly helps knowing that you have played some of your best tennis of your career over a two-week period on these courts and these conditions.

"Winning a Grand Slam is not easy, but knowing that you have actually done that certainly gives you confidence. It's a nice thing to feed off.

"Every year I've come back it kind of sinks into your head. You walk through the corridor and you see your picture and you have a little smile. It's always a nice feeling to come back to this place where I have obviously had great success."

Stosur, who is the 22nd seed at this year's event, faces Italy's Flavia Pennetta for a place in the quarter-finals later today.
