Maria Sharapova admits that she is pleased to have got back onto the hard courts of the US Open.

Maria Sharapova has admitted that she is "happy" to be currently performing on the hard courts of the US Open.

The tennis season begins on the hard court up until the conclusion of the Australian Open in January, before moving on to a summer of clay and grass surfaces.

It then moves back onto the hard courts until the campaign ends with the World Tour Finals in November.

Having won her two opening games at Flushing Meadows, the Russian stated her belief that the hard courts provide players with a more "predictable" match.

"I'm happy to be back on hard," she told reporters. "I love playing on it. It's much more predictable as far as the game goes, instead of bounces on the clay and sliding, but also the bounces on the grass."

Sharapova will take on American Mallory Burdette in round three in New York.
